    Andrea Vendrame of the AG2R La Mondiale Team and Elia Viviani of the Cofidis team respectively took 4th and 5th position in a hotly contested sprint this Tuesday on the Giro.

    The AG2R La Mondiale and Cofidis cyclists did not spare themselves and gave all.

    One day after Caleb Ewan’s stage win in Scherpenheuvel-Zichem, the Australian once again took the day’s honours for Lotto Soudal at the Belgium Tour. Against all odds, a reduced bunch sprinted for victory in what was marked as the queen stage in and around Hamoir. Following another impressive lead-out by Lotto Soudal, Caleb Ewan finished the job perfectly. The Australian won the sprint with a considerable margin over Bryan Coquard and Davide Ballerini. Ewan also took over the points jersey from Remco Evenepoel, who remains the overall leader. “To be honest, I didn’t really believe in a stage victory before the start”, begins Caleb Ewan. “I expected that the GC guys would take their opportunity today and that there would be a lot of attacks. But the pace was kept really high all day long and I think a lot of the guys didn’t really have the legs to get away in the end. It was only with one lap to go that I really started to believe in it. I felt good and we decided that we would give it a go. That is why you started seeing us coming to the front to chase the breakaway. I am really happy to pull it off once again after a superb job by my team today.” After a run-up that included several ascents – one of which the infamous Mur de Huy – two local laps of around 30 kilometres were covered in and around Hamoir. The pace was held high and the peloton was thinned out as the riders headed closer to the finish. Despite several attacks, no one was able to carve out a considerable gap.     Andreas Kron delivers Lotto Soudal second victory of the day at Tour de Suisse

    Andreas Kron was awarded stage six of the Tour de Suisse after former world champion Rui Costa was relegated. Rui Costa crossed the line first but Lotto Soudal’s Andreas Kron protested after Costa changed his line in the sprint and denied Kron the chance to sprint for the win. After race officials looked at the race footage, Kron was handed the stage win. “I also saw the sprint footage in the truck at the finish line and the decision of the jury is right”, begins Andreas Kron. “We started the sprint on the right and ended up on the left. Both Rui and me think that we were the strongest. That’s fair. In a regular sprint we could have found out. I trust the jury and I’m the winner. I’m happy for that.” For Andreas Kron it is his second WorldTour victory of the season in his first season being part of a WorldTeam. Earlier this year, the young Dane won the Volta a Catalunya opening stage. “It just feels amazing. What a start. If you would have told me this in the beginning of the season I would never have believed it. I was born in 1998. Apparently a good year, as also riders like Hirschi and Pogačar are from ‘98.     Caleb Ewan has won the third stage at the Baloise Belgium Tour after an impressive team effort. On a slightly uphill finish in Scherpenheuvel-Zichem, the Australian launched a strong sprint after what was an impressive lead-out from his Lotto Soudal teammates. Ewan won ahead of Pascal Ackermann and Michael Mørkøv. For the 26-year-old Ewan, it’s the 50th professional victory of his career. “I am really impressed by what my teammates did today”, starts Caleb Ewan. “They brought me into a perfect position before that final climb and at the top, we were all together. Then they basically pulled into the headwind all the way to the finish and no one came around us. I think we were only with four guys left as we had to use a few more teammates than we wanted to chase the breakaway and that’s what makes it even more impressive.” From the start of the stage, Lotto Soudal – together with several other sprint teams – immediately took control of the race. An early breakaway of five was kept in check and eventually caught at a handful kilometres from the finish.     After a race mastered from start to finish by the whole team, Guillaume Martin won solo at the end of the 1st edition of the Mercan’Tour Classic Alpes-Maritimes.     Victor Campenaerts wins stage 15 of the Giro d'Italia

    Victor Campenaerts took an incredible 3rd stage win at this year's Giro d'Italia for the Qhubeka ASSOS team on stage 15, which ended in Gorizia. The win follows triumphs by his teammates, Mauro Schmid and Giacomo Nizzolo, on stages 11 and 13 respectively. The Qhubeka ASSOS team, which has already achieved the best Giro d'Italia in its history, started the 147-kilometer stage 15 with the clear intention of continuing to chase success. From the start, Campenaerts and teammate Max Walscheid were the first two riders to attack. After getting an initial gap, the race was neutralized due to a massive crash in the peloton, including Mauro Schmid, who was able to continue but suffered multiple wounds on his right side. This was the first time the race had been cancelled Thankfully, most of the riders who crashed were not seriously injured and were able to continue.     GIACOMO NIZZOLO RACES TO A STRONG 2ND PLACE AT GENT-WEVELGEM

    Wout Van Aert (Team Jumbo-Visma) won the 83rd edition of Gent-Wevelgem with Giacomo Nizzolo (Team Qhubeka ASSOS) taking 2nd and Matteo Trentin (UAE-Emirates) rounding out the podium. The 247km Gent-Wevelgem got off to a blustery start, with strong winds blowing from the gun in Ypres. Initially 4 riders rode clear of the peloton, building a lead of over 9 minutes in the first 40km. However, with a change in route direction, there was a big attack in the peloton, in the crosswinds. 25 riders went clear with more than 180km to go! Giacomo Nizzolo was attentive as ever and made the front split for Team Qhubeka ASSOS. The early escapees were caught in no time at all and pressed on ahead of the chasing peloton. The gap hovered between 30 – 50 seconds for what seemed like an eternity, as the riders battled the wind and hills in the Flanders fields. It was only really after the final ascent of the famous Kemmelberg, with 35km to go, that it seemed the Nizzolo’s front group would go all the way. The lead group had whittled down significantly though, leaving only the strongest 7 riders in the race to do battle in the final 15km, Nizzolo being one of them. Coming into the finale, Nizzolo was 7th wheel when the sprint launched and our Italian & European champ came from behind with speed to pass all but Van Aert, who took a good win.

During the final lap of the local circuit – around the famous Montjuïc hill in Barcelona - De Gendt left behind his breakaway companion Mohorič and soloed to victory. For the 34-year-old Belgian, it was the fifth stage victory of his career at the Volta a Catalunya. "I really like the Volta a Catalunya and with five stage victories under my belt, the race seems to suit me really well", Thomas De Gendt began. “I just like the terrain and the variety of stages.     The reigning European and Italian champion Giacomo Nizzolo will spearhead Team Qhubeka ASSOS' hopes at Milan-Sanremo on Saturday. For Africa's WorldTour team this race is particularly poignant with Gerald Ciolek's 2013 victory, in epic conditions, catapulting the team onto the global stage. Nizzolo finished an excellent fifth at La Classicissima (sic) in 2020 and will be hoping for a repeat of a similar level of performance this Saturday, on a day of racing that will cover 299km. Giacomo Nizzolo Preparation for Sanremo this year has been good but it hasn't been perfect because I had a few issues a month ago so that for sure could have made things a bit better. Besides that I feel like I'm improving, getting better and I feel a step higher than two weeks ago, so I'm confident. Last year's race was special because of being in August but also for me personally it was the first time I started in Milan with good, actually perfect, condition. In some of the previous years I'd always had some problems but last year I can say that I was well set for Sanremo and I felt very good in that period. It was also nice for myself that I proved that I could be there playing for a good result, when I'm in shape. The goal or dream is of course always to win. Realistically if the race takes a good turn for the sprinters then I believe that I can be there to play for a good result, and in a sprint you never know what can happen. But the first thing is to feel good all day long and be there when the race is decided, and hopefully I can sprint in the front group.     Giacomo Nizzolo won the Clasica de Almeria in a fantastic sprint final, the first victory of the season for the Italian and European champion and the Qhubeka Assos team. The 183 km of the Clasica de Almeria took place Sunday February 14 under a magnificent blue sky of Spain. A peloton of 154 riders started from Pueblo de Vicar to finish in Rocquetas de Mar. The Qhubeka ASSOS team came out in force, with Giacomo Nizzolo leading the group of 7 riders which also included Max Walscheid, Victor Campenaerts, Matteo Pelucchi, Carlos Barbero, Emil Vinjebo and Sean Bennett.
