At the end of stage 6 of the Tour de France, leading to Mont Aigoual, Jesus Herrada of the Cofidis team is the only rider to have kept pace with the winner of the day, Alexey Lutsenko (Astana team): he finished second in the stage 55 seconds behind the Kazakh.
When the winner of the day, Alexey Lutsenko, left alone in front, Jesus is the only one to respond.
This great effort shows all the qualities of Jesus, he who won in a stage in the Vuelta last year.
At 30, the climber signed his best result on the Grande Boucle when he participated for the 6th time in his career.
Guillaume Martin, who was able to count on the support of his teammates as he does every day, finished the stage in the peloton of the favorites (27th).
He thus retains his fourth place in the general classification, 9 seconds behind the yellow jersey, Adam Yates.
Jesus HERRADA (2nd on the stage):
“I'm happy with my performance but inevitably a little disappointed not to have been able to fight for the final victory.
There were some very good riders in the breakaway. It was hard to keep up with the pace but I'm happy that I managed to stay in a good position & finish in 2nd position.
There, I am very tired! I will focus on recovering well to be in good shape in the Pyrenees. "
Guillaume MARTIN (4th on general classification):
“We continue our excellent start to the Tour de France.
We wished we had a rider in the break and Jesus assured.
He was not far from victory and his 2nd place was a very good performance.
Behind, we remained well grouped and well placed in the decisive moments.
In the end, I just followed the group of favorites. It was another good day for the team and for me!"
