For the first time in his career, the Australian rider won on Tirreno-Adriatico. He won in the sprint on the 3rd stage between Murlo and Terni, a 170km long stage.
"Due to this late attack from the group of favorites including Alaphilippe and Pogacar, we had to use our guys earlier than we had hoped. But we knew we weren't to give them a big advantage and we had already lost several guys before the sprint preparation even started. As a result, I had to find my own way during the final. I just tried to follow the right wheels and do my own thing at the end. Arnaud Démare had the looked good and still had a teammate with him, so I went into his wheel. I knew I had to be among the first four riders entering the last corner. This kind of end of the race, slightly uphill and with a false flat to the line, really suits me, so I'm very happy to have finished it today."
"With three stages already in my pocket, I'm really happy with how this start to the season is going. My first big goal is next week and this victory gives me a lot of confidence", concludes Caleb Ewan, who - after the podium ceremony - offered his flowers to the woman he ran into in the pit stop.
